I am a political science Ph.D. working with the undergraduate program in political science at MIT. My current role requires me to wear many proverbial hats; I am a lecturer in political theory, the undergraduate program administrator, and the program coordinator for the MIT Washington DC Summer Internship Program. In each of these roles, I am student-centered. In addition to my traditional lecturer role, I develop and orchestrate programming and opportunities for our undergraduates, and serve as the main advocate for our various programs. As the program coordinator for the Washington interns, I am responsible for program development, selecting student interns from a competitive pool, and arranging high-level internships all over Washington, DC. I maintain a large budget that includes endowed account servicing (mit.edu/summerwash). My previous academic experience includes a Visiting Assistant Professorship in political theory at Northern Illinois University, an Instructorship at Aurora University, and adjunct teaching at Waubonsee Community College. I have developed courses in political theory, American political thought, and interdisciplinary studies. My experience has also included appointments as junior editor and graduate coordinator of the Tocqueville Forum and the Compass Undergraduate Journal (compassjournal.org).

One course is for freshmen, called "Discover What Matters." This course is aimed at giving a rigorous academic experience while teaching students about vocation. In this course, students read excerpts from Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics along with Plato's Apology and Crito to build a foundation of knowledge about the good life and living well. From there, students read Design Your Life, a book that applies the theory of design thinking to designing one's life path. The second course is for juniors, called "Global Justice." This course is designed to give students an understanding of various conceptions of justice, then apply that knowledge to one particular global injustice: the oppression of women. Students complete an injustice project in this class, where they choose any injustice that is either national or international. The students write a series of three papers about their injustice, culminating in their ideas for how to address the injustice. At the end of the paper project, students also present their findings to the class to teach others about the injustice they've studied. Show less -
