Senior Manager

Current

Greater Memphis Area, Tennessee

I help in the evaluation of value and market opportunities for new products in development, and in conducting hypotheses-driven primary and secondary market research. I routinely manage and assist for projects that examine disease backgrounds, treatments and guidelines, payer coverage and reimbursement, pricing and other information relevant to the business needs of the projects. Activities often include conducting interviews with payers, physicians, hospital pharmacy directors, and other stakeholders to understand their perceptions of value for a therapy and their pricing sensitivity. Additionally, I manage and assist in development of materials for workshops, building budget impact models, writing the AMCP dossier, and drafting manuscripts that are expected to be published in books and academic journals.

Investigated the biochemical composition of Caribbean gorgonian corals and their symbionts Symbiodinium spp. and characterized the bacterial microbiome under ambient and stressful conditions.Studies were conducted at the Instituto de Ciencas del Mar y Limnología in Mexico in collaboration with the scientists there. Further sample processing using various biochemical (tissue composition, antioxidant and immune enzyme kinetic assays) and molecular (PCR, Illumina Mi-Seq next-gen) techniques, and data analyses (using R statistical program and mothur bioinformatics sofware) were carried out at the University of Mississippi and the University of Texas Arlington. The gorgonian-algal symbiosis, bacterial microbiome and tissue composition varied between different gorgonian species, and these and other physiological factors influenced how different species dealt with the stressors injury and elevated temperature. These findings were presented at local and international scientific conferences, and published in three peer-reviewed articles.

Trained and supervised two undergraduate students in the use of molecular and enzyme kinetic techniques to study the physiology of Caribbean gorgonian corals and their dinoflagellate symbionts Symbiodinium spp.One student used PCR, denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis and Sanger sequencing to identify genotypes of Symbiodinium spp. hosted by Caribbean gorgonian corals. For her honors thesis, the other student ran kinetic assays for the enzymes catalase and peroxidase to quantify oxidative stress in gorgonian corals exposed to elevated temperature. Both students enjoyed the research and are now pursuing post graduate studies. One recently defended her Ph.D. dissertation and the other is currently in medical school.
