I love a challenge, and that has brought some very rewarding opportunities in my professional career. I became a news director for a local television station at the age of 24. Deadlines, early mornings and late nights both in front of and behind the camera were my life, but after 10 years in the media industry I switched careers, challenging myself in the wonderful world of non-profits. While working for the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Utah I established a social media presence for the Foundation, managed media relationships, developed a new website, learned the ins and outs of graphic design and grew the fundraising program for local schoolchildren by some 300%. In 2012 I challenged myself by overseeing 26 corps and a dozen service extension sites for The Salvation Army in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. Christmastime kettles, bell ringers and disaster services were only a part of what made me fall in love with the Midwest. But five years into my role, personal matters provided an opportunity to return to the Wasatch Mountains where I took on a new challenge working in local government. After 20 years of telling stories, I traded my PR hat and notebook for a Canvas subscription and a white board, where I am telling my own stories as a high school teacher. I am very honored to play a small part in contributing to the success of tomorrow's leaders by teaching them today.
