Mrs. Kimberly May is a distinguished livewire in the field of education with over 27 years as an educator in this noble career. Educating since 1997, she has served in many capacities as a 1st -5th Grade teacher in public schools, an Assistant Principal, and notably as the first African-American Principal at both Legacy Traditional Academy and American Leadership Academy schools located in Arizona. Ending her principalship in 2015, she was appointed as a district administrator to lead and serve in an inaugural role as the Director of Federal Programs overseeing Title I (Improving Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged), Title II (Effective Teachers and Leaders), Title III (English Learners), and Move On When Reading (MOWR), an Arizona state grant and program. Missing the direct connection to students and families after serving in administration for almost a decade, she returned to her first love of teaching from 2018-2022. For the next 2 years, she went on to mentor, coach and support teachers serving as FUSDs District K-8 Math Curriculum Specialist. She is looking forward to leading Magma Ranch K8 to excellence as the new principal for the 2024-2025 school year. She currently serves as a member of the TeacherSolutions™️ Solution Team with the AZK12 Center and as the elected Southern Region Vice President of the Arizona Math Leaders, an affiliate of NCSM.She’s passionate about all things education and seeks every opportunity for continuous growth to provide what is best for scholars. Her love and enthusiastic approach to teaching and learning is infectious and undeniably what is necessary for both scholars and educators in and outside the field of education. She forms lasting relationships with families, scholars, and educators by continuously making herself available to them in service providing the tools needed for continuous growth and success. Kimberly has been a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. since April 13, 1996.She is a Gary, IN native, relocating to Arizona in 2007. She is happily married with four daughters, two bonus sons, and a grandson. She is currently a National Board Certified Teacher Candidate. In her spare time she enjoys reading, researching best practices, listening to personal growth podcasts, traveling and seeing the world through the lens of her camera as a novice photographer.
