Work with current and former foster youth to assess and assist the youth in preparing for self-sufficient adulthood, obtainable through formal and informal modeling and teaching of skills, recognizing values and establishing achievable goals. Also assess, support, practice and monitor the youth’s ability to successfully apply learned skills in a semi-supervised site or congregate living arrangement. Help young people apply learned skills and demonstrate self-sufficiency within the community and help them to have a connection to a natural support network.

Worked in a supervisory role at the time that Central Plains Center for Services collaborated with Omaha Home for Boys to form the Branching Out Independent Living Program. Responsible for supervision of CPCS Independent Living Specialists, oversight of assessment procedures, plan development and implementation. Also responsible for strengthening collaboration with area agencies and ensuring that all community partners work together to improve a youth’s opportunities and networks for housing, employment, education, transportation, personal and community engagement and health care. Involved in collecting and tracking data to be used as a tool for improving outcomes for youth in care.

Boys Town Ne

Worked as a crisis counselor to provide short term crisis intervention to children, families and individuals in crisis. Also assessed the needs of callers through basic counseling techniques and provided problem solving techniques, resource information and assisted callers in identifying on-going support.

Supervised the treatment of youth in assigned homes, created creating clinical summaries and treatment plans for 32 youth, documented ongoing progress in the youths’ goal areas, developed family teacher and assistant family teacher skills and regularly evaluated family home programs to ensure compliance, facilitated regular multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and weekly consultation meetings, participated in presentations and acted as administrative representative on the treatment planning committee, created individual treatment plans and identified specialized services for a diverse population which includes state wards, adopted children, those in guardianship situations and other privately placed youth.

Worked with my husband as a Family-Teaching Couple who provided direct care for at-risk youth through creating a safe and loving family style living environment. Provided youth with moral, spiritual, and educational development needed for future success. Also provided emotional support and taught youth appropriate skills and behaviors. Used rational problem solving techniques to teach youth critical thinking skills, assisted with behavioral problems, counseled through personal issues, and provided crisis intervention when needed. Displayed and taught parenting, family, and relationship skills to youth, legal guardians, and caretakers and created collaborative relationships and family engagement.

Worked as a member of a comprehensive team of professionals by offering cognitive rehabilitation services to help patients reduce cognitive limitations caused by conditions such as brain injuries, multiple trauma and strokes. Led by a neuropsychologist, our team of rehabilitation specialists utilized an evidence-based approach to treatment that was tailored to individual needs and goals. The program targeted behavior management, social skills training, improving insight and awareness, and long-term psychosocial adjustment. This holistic approach served to augment the natural healing process and promote the re-emergence of cognitive functioning.
