After a 40 year career in Washington, that included leadership positions in the private sector and state, federal, and international affairs, Kris created Balderston Strategic Partnerships to help clients meet their goals at the intersection of government, business, philanthropy, and civil society. It is a specialty practice, focused on a limited portfolio of purposeful clients who recognize the power of using partnerships, public affairs, and communications to design creative solutions for vexing problems.While at BSP, Kris has advised leaders in the corporate, academic, philanthropic, and political sectors on a wide array of national, regional, and global issues. In 2017, Kris also helped to start Change Research and Embold, an innovative on-line polling firm that provides accurate and affordable surveys to forward-looking entities.Previously, Kris served as the President of Global Public Affairs at Fleishman Hillard. He was the General Manager of Fleishman Hillard's Washington, DC office. Prior to Fleishman, Kris helped to create and served as the Special Representative at the Global Partnership Initiative within the Office of the Secretary of State. Kris was Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s first Legislative Director in 2001 before serving as her Deputy Chief of Staff. While in the capacity, Mr. Balderston accomplished numerous successful public/private partnerships with multiple stakeholders in the State of New York. Kris began his career with the National Governors' Association and later ran the MA Office for Governor Dukakis. He became Senior Advisor to Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell. He served as the Deputy Chief of Staff at the U.S. Department of Labor under Secretary of Labor Robert Reich.Kris served in the White House from 1995 to 2001, as Special Assistant for Cabinet Affairs to President William Jefferson Clinton and then later as the Deputy Assistant to the President and the Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet. Kris also serves as a founding member of the board of the Global Alliance of Clean Cookstoves (the Clean Cooking Alliance) and served on the Board of the Stimson Center. Kris holds his BA from LeMoyne College (recently named their Alumni of the Year) and his MA from Georgetown University.
