I served as a senior engineer working on Thresher's QuickCode product - a web application that creates labeled text data for artificial intelligence applications and machine learning. While I was responsible for overall maintenance and operation of the application (including frontend Angular application), my primary contribution was migrating the application from a legacy version of Elasticsearch (v2) to the latest version at the time, (Elasticsearch v7). This necessitated infrastructure work on AWS ec2 instances and backend code changes (python).Additionally, I supported other Thresher analytical products by leveraging QuickCode and other text based data sources through Elasticsearch data and queries and Kibana visualizations. This supporting work also necessitated develop of other custom web applications to facilitate the work of Thresher analysts and data scientists.

Customer: Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Services December 2008 - October 2009 Carronade was a subcontractor to Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Services on the P522 program. Used the Scrum software development framework to build an enterprise-class storage and retrieval system to meet the requirements of Lockheed Martin’s U.S. Government customer. Developed components at all tiers of this complex system - including writing XQueries against the back-end XML database (Mark Logic Server), writing business logic using the Java programming language and exposing that logic as loosely coupled services on the FUSE Open Source Enterprise Service Bus, and developing the Java-based web application front-end using the Apache Struts 2 web framework and the Yahoo User Interface JavaScript framework. Utilized several other key Java-based components to develop the customer’s application - mostly notably the Spring application framework and Apache XML Beans. Customer: BEA Systems and, post-acquisition, OracleMay 2007 - November 2008 Served as a BEA/Oracle product specialist and Java enterprise consultant to the portal team on the GeoScout contract. Served as the Portal Presentation Framework team lead and provided expert guidance in best practices Java enterprise development and WebLogic Server/Portal development and operations. In addition to coaching other team members in Java Enterprise Edition design and development using BEA/Oracle products, coded portlets using the Apache Beehive (Struts-based) web application framework and integrated Web 2.0 client-side capabilities into the WebLogic portal using the Dojo JavaScript framework.

Developed java web applications (jsps, servlets, JSR-168 portlets) and databases to support the National Security Agency’s Geospatial Exploitation Office. These systems enhanced the office’s ability to track their people, operational successes, and requests for information in order to provide the office with metrics that established their value to the war fighter. Key AccomplishmentsUsed lightweight java frameworks and techniques to quickly deliver new capabilities that are deployed to BEA Weblogic 9.2 Application Server and Oracle 9i Database Management Server. These frameworks/techniques included Spring, Hibernate, XSL Transformation, and XDoclet.To maximize limited resources, implemented and customized an existing Government Off-The-Shelf (GOTS) action request tracking tool within 2 weeks that the office used to track their customer requests for information. This software reuse saved the office 6+ months of precious developer resources and jump-started their effort to better track work-related metrics.Developed, tested, documented, and implemented web applications that allowed the customer to store and report their operational successes and employee information. These custom applications saved the office 10+ staff hours per week answering metrics-related questions from their chain of command.In parallel with new development efforts, provided an attractive, highly useable and easily updated web presence for the office by leveraging Apache Forrest, XML, XSL Transformation, HTML, and JavaScript.

Developed enhancements to Agent Logic's core software product, the Enterprise Agent Server (EAS). This Java-based enterprise product "detects complex events as they occur based on user-defined rules, and automatically initiates responses as required, such as real-time alerts and process triggering" (excerpted from http://www.agentlogic.com). Additionally, Kris was the principal architect and developer of the company's Low-to-High product that facilitated the monitoring, management, and transfer of data from low-side networks to highly secure high-side network domains. Key AccomplishmentsImplemented the EAS for several customers including the Central Intelligence Agency and the Intelink Management Office. Implementations and customizations for those customers helped their analysts quickly find key information and be notified when information in databases, email, RSS feeds, documents, and other sources met their user-defined criteria.Integrated Agent Logic capability within large customer projects such as enterprise information portals and existing web applications; diverse deployment environments included Apache Tomcat, JBOSS, BEA Weblogic, Oracle Database, MySQL Database, and Microsoft SQL Server.
