Promoting and motivating organizations (from one-man-company, to family business, and to startup corporations), to adopt processes aided by historical knowledge of best practices (called standards) was an interesting experience of life-time. I found individuals who sit on the board at a highest level are a lot worried. They work too hard in managing itself, rather than to move forward. It was a great feeling of hand holding and course correction to reduce/rationalize controls and introducing processes in bits and pieces, and information system, for confidence to these businessmen. And it gave me insight of fear and its importance ... in absence of any 'trust support system' and business model. On the other hand,in large and established organizations, experience was different, and it was more about dealing with rigidity of the processes, interests in work killed by mechanical systems, resistance in people to changes and attitudes of management. Many of my thoughts and tools have origin in these experiences, and my renewed commitment to reduce pain of practicing managers, by simplifying idea of the management.
