About Krishna Kumar G
I have completed my Master of Science in Physics. I am looking forward to getting an opportunity to obtain a PhD degree. After completing my MSc I got an opportunity to work on a project entitled “Development of Composite Nanofibers by Electrospinning for Photonic Applications”. I could understand the fundamentals of the interaction of light with nanostructures like nanofibers, thin films, quantum dots and nanocrystals. Nanofibre synthesis was done by the method of Electrospinning, thin films were prepared by spin coating technique and nanoparticles & Quantum dots were synthesized through sol-gel chemical methods. Composites of polymer nanofibers doped with dyes and quantum dots were prepared and studied. Later I got a chance to work in the field Dye Sensitized solar cells as part of a research project entitled “Natural Dyes –a promising sensitizer for DSSCs”-under the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) - SRS Scheme, where I could prepare and study thin film solar cells by the technique of Spin coating, Doctor Blade and Spray pyrolysis. TiO2-based thin film solar cells using various dye complexes and perovskites were prepared and studied.Later joined as a Project fellow in the Sophisticated Test and Instrumentation Centre, of Cochin University of Science and Technology where my major responsibility was the operation and maintenance of the Transmission Electron Microscope operator. After four and a half years of operator life, I moved on to know more about TEM, and I got an opportunity to work as Field Service Engineer (FSE) for Electron Microscopes. There I gained the technical aspects of Electron Microscopes which was very essential for the smooth running of an analytical instrument. After 8 months I joined JK Tyre R&D Centre as Scientist. There I was in charge of the Microscopy Lab which consisted of STEM, FESEM and AFM. While working here I have got training from Thermofisher Scientific’s Application Scientists for the advanced operation of the instruments. Here I was handling polymer samples extensively (Tyre and other Elastomer). Finally when the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Trivandrum, offered me a position I accepted and currently I am working in the Central Instrumentation Facility for the Electron Microscopy Lab which is equipped with two TEM (Tecnai G2 300 kV with STEM, EDS and EELS & Tecnai Spirit 120 kV) Here my major responsibility is to support the academic researchers using HRTEM, EDS, STEM, EELS and Tomography Techniques.
