Michael Finkel for the outstanding performanceProjects:1) LINDA-4-H2O (Local Island Power Supply of Water Supply Systems with Distributed Generation Systems)Aim: To use biogas plants to ensure drinking water supply in Bavaria even in the event of a large-scale & long-lasting blackout Carried out a nearest neighbour analysis for 5000 biogas plants & 3000 water extraction systems using Python Checked the technical feasibility of each possible connection among the thousands of biogas plants & water pumps- based on the power ratio, permissible voltage drop and current carrying capacity for low voltage (LV), medium voltage (MV) and parallel cable systems Calculated shortest actual distances along the existing streets by reading in the Open Street Map of Bavaria Determined investment & operating costs for all technically possible biogas plant-water system mappings Built a database of suitable diesel generators & estimated the costs incurred currently by using generators Proposed optimal hybrid solutions comprising of usage of both diesel generators and biogas plants with investment savings of 80 million Euros & 10-year savings of 250 million Euros for the respective time frame plans2) Gt (Tilted Surface radiation) Calculation Created an Excel Spreadsheet to calculate the course of Gh (Global radiation) and Gt (based on Klucher’s anisotropic model) over time in 15 minute time steps on any given day for any PV system in Germany Calculated monthly results for Augsburg, thus providing its year-round solar irradiation trend
