Build a pipeline that empowered our Developers to update testing environments in a self serve manner. This build process of a new environment once took multiple Engineers up to 6 months to accomplish, and now can be completed in a matter of hours with minimal, if any, intervention from a single engineer.Updates are part of that pipeline, where the pipeline itself determines the updates needed and applies only the pieces that do indeed have something to update. This increased overall efficiency as well and takes the update process, depending on the situation, down to a few minutes.

I worked on updating our infrastructure building code (in Terraform) from the organically grown codebase that had its own set of growing pains into a new version that was much more modular and easier to manage. This was all keeping the current infrastructure in mind and making sure the transition was as smooth as possible. We have the concept of "Private Clouds" where our customers can have their own sandboxed setup of our application stack, and this restructuring allowed for those environments to be managed in a uniform manner. This also allowed the company a much shorter runway for launching new Private Cloud environments.

I gathered data from multiple streams and recognized patterns that can be either automated, or streamlined. I used that data and my Development experience to build tooling that increased my overall efficiency in administering multiple environments, each with their own independent setup of our stack in it. I also utilized the data to "rightsize" our cloud instances to utilize them appropriately, not only saving money overall, but also increasing overall throughput and stability.

Administration of more than 3,000 Linux based machines that needed to be synchronized and running in a baseline manner. This includes but was not limited to: OS updates, application updates, process management and filesystem management. Extensive bash and python scripting experience was utilized heavily for custom built reports, sidecar processes for the POS system, multi threaded file transfer, and multi threaded command execution on these 3000+ machines.Puppet also utilized for system configuration and root level configurations and settings. Wrote and maintained the modules and manifests that puppet used to manage firewall whitelists, sudoer permissions, user accounts and passwords, outbound email filter rules, running and installed services, and controlling virtual terminal lock down settings. Java programming also utilized for many different pieces of the POS register's systems and side processes. Very deep knowledge of In$torePlus/MLink and Xstore/Xadmin POS environments is an integral part of this position.Key player in the conversion of the older In$torePlus POS system to the more up-to-date Oracle Xstore system.Migration of initial Xstore/Xadmin servers into AWS, and monitoring various aspects using splunk and solarwinds. Design and build interfaces utilizing sql views, indexes, and IBM’s IIB (formerly ESB) queues to get data flowing in between back end systems and the Xstore/Xadmin environment. This included data such as time accounting, inventory, sales accounting, multiple complex configuration settings and more. 60+ queues were added for the Xstore system.
