Internship and Master Thesis project in a world-renowned research institute focused on investigating the chemical communication between different organisms – plants, insects, and microbes. As a Graduate Research Student of the Research Group Sequestration and Detoxification in Insects, Department of Insect Symbiosis, MPI -Chemical Ecology, I investigated the role of two myrosinase genes in the chemical defense and glucosinolate metabolism of the horseradish flea beetle, as well as analyzing the phenotypic consequences of a myrosinase gene copy-number polymorphism in the laboratory insect population. For the entire duration of my internship and Master Thesis, the following were my duties and responsibilities:— Involved in project planning and implementation, along with data analysis (including statistical analysis).— Performed different laboratory experiments (e.g. DNA/RNA extraction, RNA interference, different PCR techniques, enzyme assays, HPLC, LC-MS/MS, different bioassays, etc.) and handled the insect rearing of the laboratory insect population to meet research goals.— Prepared different reports (technical, popular, and other reports) and presented experiment updates and project results to the university and to the MPI – CE.
