Even though I'm a marketing and communications executive by trade, I'll always be a reporter at heart. I only craft stories I believe in and revel in growing awareness for both new and established meaningful brands that deserve to have the spotlight shine on them. Over the past 17 years, I've devoted myself to uncovering unique and compelling ways people are using a product or service and helping thousands of other people hear those stories. I’ve helped leaders take their companies public via both IPOs and SPACs.As the head of marketing and communications at venture capital firm CRV, I provide strategic guidance to the firm, its investors and CRV’s global portfolio of companies. This includes everything from content creation and thought executive leadership platforms to internal and external communications, branding, narratives, messaging, the website, social media, community, events and sponsorship endeavors. While running my corporate communications consultancy, I devoted my time to helping startups and businesses of all sizes craft their own unique story. Most founders dream of ringing the trading floor bell and high revenues. Building a proactive plan for just in case something terrible happens usually isn’t on their to-do list, but it should be. No company looks forward to password breaches, internal messages getting leaked to the press or other crisis communications situations, but throughout my career when the going gets tough I roll up my sleeves, jump in the trenches and help get things back on track. I enjoy food, travel and shoes so feel free to swing by my passion project, FoodWaterShoes.com.Specialties: Adding a human element to corporate stories, puns and dad jokes, helping journalists discover great angles, building and scaling influencer programs, international public relations, working with senior executives to craft corporate positioning, working with agencies so they feel like a partner not a vendor, setting goals and surpassing them, strategic communications, securing top-tier press, media relations, public relations programs, keeping my cool under pressure and being someone you can rely on when you're on a tight deadline.

Vice President Of Marketing And CommunicationsCrv Nov 2020 - PresentPalo Alto, Ca, UsAirtable, DoorDash and Vercel are just a few of stellar businesses CRV has backed. In my current role I enjoy working across all brand and reputation efforts for the early-stage venture capital firm and its investors. I also provide strategic marketing and communications guidance to the founders, CEOs and the marketing and PR teams of the startups CRV partners with. I enjoy being surrounded by passionate entrepreneurs who are transforming their industries and working alongside them to take their businesses to the next level. Founded 53 years ago, CRV has a proven track record of working with hundreds of extraordinary leaders and their businesses which range the gamut from stealth mode all the way to publicly held companies. We have offices in Palo Alto and San Francisco.I thrive in fast-paced, hyper growth environments. My 20 years of combined communications, public relations, marketing, social media and broadcast experience includes international work in Brazil, Canada, Germany and Japan. I’ve sat on nearly every side of the communications table: as a television news reporter (at NBC's KDLT-TV), running VC marketing and communications (CRV), in house on companies’ communications teams (LinkedIn, Gogobot) and also on the agency side (Horn Group, Canfield McNish Consulting, LLC). I’ve served as a spokesperson for companies both nationally and internationally. My experience includes working with B-to-B and B-to-C companies. I’m as comfortable working in startup environments as I am working with publicly traded companies (LinkedIn, Shift, RightNow Technologies, Taleo, Riverbed, Omniture). My experience includes leading teams and managing outside agencies. I also have experience finding, hiring and managing company spokespeople. -
Founder And Chief DiscovererFoodwatershoes Jul 2016 - PresentSan Francisco Bay Area, UsFoodWaterShoes is a passion project I started during my travels around the globe. As a former television journalist (for NBC’s KDLT-TV) and as a corporate communications professional (LinkedIn, Gogobot, Horn Group), I’ve always loved sharing interesting stories about people, brands and food with other like-minded people. FoodWaterShoes is a space dedicated to discovering and sharing incredible food, experiences and fashion from around the world. -

Communications Strategy ConsultantCanfield Mcnish Consulting Sep 2012 - Nov 2020Cupertino, California, UsSelect former clients include: Control4, Core, Feedly, Fountain, Kleiner Perkins, RemoteHQ, Remote Year, Shift, TravelJoy, Udacity, Voyage. As a former television journalist (for NBC’s KDLT-TV) and as a corporate communications professional (LinkedIn, Gogobot, Horn Group), I’ve always loved sharing interesting stories about interesting people, brands and places with other likeminded people. While the media is perhaps the best known constituency that PR pros work with, stakeholders come in many different forms both inside and outside a company. Whether a company needs help with its fundraising efforts, is interested in generating awareness or just trying to figure out how to best handle a crisis, I enjoy being part of the team tasked with clicking all of a brand’s Rubik’s cube tiles into place, so it can accelerate its growth. My areas of expertise include creating scalable (and repeatable) global campaigns, messaging, brand development, influencer relations, media strategy, media training (for broadcast TV, print and radio) and crisis management. As a freelance journalist I’ve crafted lifestyle articles for publications such as Startle (Forbes' Travel Site). Specialties include career/workplace issues, fashion, food, technology, human interest topics, technology, travel, etc. -
Vice President Of Communications And Getaway ExpertGogobot (Now Trip.Com) Dec 2014 - Jul 2016Palo Alto, California, UsGogobot’s mission is to help people discover great places to stay, eat and play that are perfect for them. 19 Tribes (Family Travelers, Foodies, LGBT, etc.) help Gogobot members get personalized recommendations. More than 10 million people used Gogobot to plan and research places to go in the last year. Gogobot also has more than 800,000 reviews, four million photos and 60,000 city guides available on both the site and its apps (Gogobot for Android and Gogobot for iOS). At Gogobot, the go-to place for places to go, I was responsible for overseeing media relations, social media, corporate communications and Gogobot's Pro program. During my time at Gogobot we saw a wonderful opportunity to court press attention and to team up with the Human Rights Campaign while also staying true to our mission and supporting our LGBT Tribe by speaking out for LGBT rights (see Bloomberg, “Indiana's Costly Anti-Gay Experiment” and “Indiana’s Religious Freedom Law: Business Backlash Begins”). In a claustrophobically filled travel space, we also saw a way to differentiate Gogobot from other travel businesses by leveraging our data to talk about something our competitors weren’t discussing - declining former travel hot spots that were falling out of favor with travelers (see MONEY, “Nab a Travel Bargain at These Declining Tourist Spots”). -
Senior Manager Corporate CommunicationsLinkedin Jan 2008 - Dec 2014Sunnyvale, Ca, UsI joined LinkedIn in 2008, when there were just 200 employees and 18 million members. I worked at LinkedIn during its successful IPO and departed before the Microsoft merger and after it swelled to 6,000 employees and 332 million global members. During my time at LinkedIn I was its Senior Manager Corporate Communications. Over the years I held roles focusing on the company’s corporate, product, consumer and trade (advertising and human resources) public relations. My branding experience includes working with the team early on to seize the opportunity to define LinkedIn as the defacto job hunting site when the recession first hit and Monster was still a threat to the business. Once we gained traction, in my consumer role we worked with publications in the United States, Brazil, Canada and Japan to broaden LinkedIn's appeal beyond jobseekers. My team worked closely with internal resources, such as data scientists, to create global easily repeatable campaigns to encourage profile completeness whether or not you were looking for a job. (The format for the original LinkedIn Buzzwords campaign from 2010/2011, see AARP, “40 Words and Terms to Keep Off of Your Résumé,“ is still used at LinkedIn today six years after it launched.) In my product role I ran point on communications efforts surrounding LinkedIn's seven mobile apps. LinkedIn also gave me the opportunity to work on crisis communications and external community communications (when LinkedIn was opening its Sunnyvale office location interfacing with the legal team, local neighbors and the facilities department was crucial). Early on I launched LinkedIn's journalist training program (when I left more than 23,000 editors, producers and reporters had learned how to leverage LinkedIn to find scoops, sources and story ideas) and its first customer/member reference program. -
