- Provided over 200 hours of strengths-based counselling to individuals facing issues related to mental health, life transitions, and addiction- Co-facilitated CBT-based Anxiety Management workshop, workshop on Self-Esteem and Shame Resiliency- Received weekly professional development on topics ranging from Trauma-Informed Practice to Creating Inclusive Spaces. - Kept regular session and process notes, administered psychological tests, received weekly supervision, and maintained professional standards of ethics and confidentiality.

I co-coordinated Community Transitions, a program offering peer support opportunities to inpatients ("peers") transitioning out of mental health facilities. My duties included:Matching volunteers and peer applicants;Coordinating training for volunteers;Providing telephone support, in person support and issue resolution to peer supporters and their matches.Organizing and regular meetings to support them in their role;Developing and implementing an outreach plan to recruit volunteers;Facilitating groups as required.

Currently co-facilitating a 14-week psycho-education program advising participants on cognitive, behavioral, and mindfulness techniques to better manage their anxiety.

- I was responsible for developing our Conference Program. To this end, I collected and reviewed research paper abstracts, scheduled speakers, and created and organized session themes - Worked with and managed volunteers during the Conference- I attended regular meetings, responded to email inquiries, and performed other administrative tasks as required.

I developed a workshop for coaches who tutor undergraduate students facing personal and structural obstacles to academic success. The goal of the workshop was to help these coaches learn how to teach effective study skill and test taking strategies. I also:- Consulted with individual tutors about the needs of their students, and planned my workshop goals accordingly.- Conducted a literature review of pedagogy, educational psych, and cognitive psych research about undergraduate multiple choice performance and study strategies.- Identified major themes in the literature and developed practical strategies for helping students benefit from research on memory, multiple choice strategies, and study skills.- Delivered a three hour participatory workshop to coaches, and a “brown bag” lunch workshop with ESP students wanting to learn more about multiple choice strategies.

I have been a TA for 7 undergraduate courses, helping students learn about topics as diverse as gender, occupations, research methods, and political sociology. Teaching assistants are often the first line of contact for students needing academic assistance, and as such it is a job I both enjoy and take seriously. My responsibilities have included:- Preparing and giving guest lectures, on which I have received extremely positive feedback from students;- Planning and delivering a third-year workshop on the topic of designing useful essay outlines;- Communicating with students through email and office hours, providing feedback on assignments and offering strategies for improvement;- Designing class assignments and midterm questions- Grading papers and assignments- Attending skill development workshops on topics such as managing diverse classrooms, negotiating student conflict, and providing effective student feedback.

- I helped create a database designed to help sociology instructors find materials to augment their students’ learning. - I cross tabulated Pearson's Introductory Sociology textbooks, and organized supplementary materials based on topic, and type of resource (graph, chart, video clip, etc.).- Our work resulted in an online search engine for sociology instructors who use Pearson textbooks.

- I developed multiple-choice, short answer, and essay questions for use in Pearson’s Introduction to Sociology test bank. - These questions have gone on to be included in Pearson's repository of resources available to sociology instructors.

- I recruited participants for a research project examining how parents make educational decisions for and with their children.- Specifically, I interviewed parents from high socioeconomic status backgrounds, focusing on how they attempted to transmit their educational and cultural advantages to their children.

- Working with a team, I co-wrote a report highlighting ESL programs and resources available for international students studying in Canadian universities.- I evaluated relevant research on how technology can enhance ESL programs, and synthesized this information in a brief report outlining the benefits and challenges of technological aids.- Our team's work culminated in a “Best Practices” report for universities and businesses considering implementing ESL programs.

- I worked for three summers at a Volunteer and Information Centre that promoted volunteerism, connected citizens to community services, and provided training and resources to voluntary organizations in the community. - I interviewed local nonprofit leaders and wrote articles about their organizations in the Sherwood Park News (local newspaper).- I interviewed potential volunteers and referred them to volunteer opportunities that matched their skills and interests.- I updated community referral information, and provided front-line telephone service to people inquiring about by-laws, child care options, transportation, and other local concerns.
