About Kristen Burnell

I AMI am a values-driven leader with over 20 years of experience driving positive and lasting change in the U.S. and globally. I excel at turning ideas into reality—whether it's building a new research center or launching a product—by applying my skills in business development, program management, operations, finance, contracts, communications, and strategic planning. Building strong relationships is something I enjoy and is also crucial to transforming ideas into reality, whether it's managing teams, developing partnerships, fostering community among stakeholders, leading cross-collaborations, or cultivating and stewarding clients and donors.Due to these skills, my relentless results-oriented mindset, love of learning, and my adaptability, I was a critical, steadfast leader in building an award-winning global financial literacy research center, GFLEC at the George Washington University (now at Stanford University). I oversaw change management as both the center and the field evolved during my 12 years at GFLEC. I achieved success at GFLEC and impacted the field overall even though I came from a different field—transitioning from teaching high school history to building a financial literacy center in 2011. My success came from my adaptability, ability to learn quickly, and the application of past experience to a new environment. This unique career path has given me expertise across higher education, nonprofits, research institutions, and secondary education. Throughout my career have built rapport with diverse groups, including nonprofits, schools, universities, government entities, companies, and individual stakeholders worldwide.CAREER ASPIRATIONSI am actively looking for a full-time position that taps into my passion for transforming vision into reality and contributing to society. Specifically, my goal is to find a role that draws significantly on my talent for business development, program management, operations, relationship management, and/or strategic thinking. This search follows a break I took from my full-time career. After spending ten years at the center, I paused my full-time endeavors to rejuvenate and focus on personal matters. I continued to work part-time and am now re-energized and ready to embrace my next full-time opportunity.
