Ralph Isberg Lab- Interrogated host-pathogen interactions of the model enteric bacterium Y. pseudotuberculosis.- Investigated the role of host cell surface protein CD59 during early stages of bacterial infection.- Constructed mammalian cell culture disease models; evaluated cellular responses with immunostaining of extracellular & intracellular targets, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, biochemical & protein assays, etc.- Developed ImageJ macro to automate image analysis of multichannel microscope data.- Taught lab techniques and led small group review and problem set sessions for 12-20 students per group. Stephanopoulos Lab- Analyzed bacterial community dynamics using 16S sequencing data of food waste starting material and designed custom consortia of bacteria to breakdown bioreactor substrates and maximize product output.- Applied microbial genetic engineering techniques to metabolize sustainable substrates for production of biofuels and other industrial products through process development and optimization.- Conducted fieldwork in India biannually; recruited collaborators for scale-up of bioreactor technology.- Supervised and trained undergraduate research assistants in molecular biology techniques.
