Research objective: Understand the relationship between monarch larvae diet and susceptibility to parasite. Specifically, conclude why individuals fed A. curassavica suffer lower spore loads than those fed A. incarnata. •Completed 12-week research projects focused on how monarchs "self-medicate" to avoid infection by the parasite O. elektroscirrha which is genetically similar to malaria. Bi-monthly experiments lasted up to 18-hours of collection and data analysis.•Daily lab duties: fed and mated adult butterflies, counted spore load for adult butterflies, green house maintenance, and imaged spores. •Participated in weekly meetings involving the discussion of recently published scientific papers found in journals such as Nature, PLOS Biology, and NCIB.The final product of this experiment was a published paper and presentation of my research.
