Continuous Improvement in Energy Performance: Developed energy performance targets for commercial buildings; co-developing the Department of Energy program for ISO 50001 (Energy Management Standard) implementation; developing documentation to assist in ISO 50001 implementation; facilitating the implementation of ISO 50001 on MIT campus; developing policy documents and standard operating procedures for MIT building. Commercial Building Partnerships (CBP) Program: Engage owners, designers, engineers, and operators from various commercial building sectors to implement best practices in design, construction, and operation; identify and document technical and non-technical barriers to energy-efficiency in the higher education sector; manage three CBP projects totaling $1.2M to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery; develop and document energy-efficiency strategies for modular construction; assessing the role of the building information model throughout design, construction, and operations.
  • Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
    Building Technologies Postdoctoral Fellow
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Oct 2009 - May 2011
    · Research focus: Integrating the Design, Construction, and Operations of Energy-Efficient Commercial BuildingsMy postdoctoral research focuses on integrating various stakeholders involved in an energy-efficient commercial building's lifecycle. Specifically, the work examines which stakeholders need to be involved in various phases of the lifecycle to facilitate energy-efficient building performance. Architects and engineers design buildings and report an expected energy performance to the owner. Once the building is constructed and operated, the performance may or may not align with the expectation. This research explores causes of this discrepancy between expected and actual performance and critically addresses the issue of which stakeholders are engaged in a given lifecycle phase and the impact of that engagement (or lack thereof) on building performance.Responsibilities· Co-launched the $7 million Commercial Buildings Partnership Program at LBNL (awarded an Outstanding Performance Award for this effort)· Engage owners and operators from various commercial building sectors to understand best practices in design and operation· Conducting case studies to determine the causes of variability in load shapes in commercial office buildings (with the Demand Response Research Center)
