I am from the beautiful mountains of California and now live on a beautiful island in the south of Brazil. Currently, I teach English in private classes online using mostly Zoom. I also use FaceTime, Whatsapp, or Messenger, depending on the needs of my students. I am a Language and Culture Coach who helps learners reach their desired goals in the English language!I specialize in American English pronunciation, Listening and Communication skills to acquire Naturally-spoken English, and Business English. I teach Intercultural Communication techniques in my lessons, because culture plays such a big part in communication. Business English is my focus. I teach (American) pronunciation, intonation, word and sentence stress, and also the real rhythm of the English language. For those who do business in the United States, I focus my classes on American culture. Understanding the culture of where you will do business will greatly improve your communication skills and can help you avoid misunderstandings. I strive to make my classes fun and interesting, as well as comprehensive.I also translate documents from Portuguese to English, and offer text editing/ proofreading services.

My focuses are Conversation, Fluency, and Pronunciation; specializing in Business English. My classes are personalized for each student. I teach groups or private classes. I've recently changed my focus to include cultural aspects into my lessons, because one really can't separate language from culture. I love teaching pronunciation, which includes word and sentence stress, intonation, and rhythm. This helps the student learn how to communicate more effectively (Speaking skills). In addition, this helps the student with their Listening skills, because they learn how the language is REALLY spoken in REAL life and the world opens up to them finally!! It's exciting to see this develop in my students. They end up learning how to have conversations with native speakers because they understand more than just "book learning" and "classroom learning"

I created the entire course from the beginning. This included testing the skills of each individual in the company to assess their level of English. I formed three groups: beginning, low-intermediate, and low-advanced levels. I chose the material to be used, which included books, short videos to demonstrate various topics. I brought in other material as the course progressed, according to the changing needs of the employees. I found the material that was the most appropriate, based on the interests and needs of each individual. I highly encouraged input from the team to guide their own development in the English language. Role-plays, and Conversational topics were used to encourage free form conversation. Written assignments were given, and as the company deals a lot with their American partners, I taught American-specific cultural lessons, as well. Grades were given after the contracted year ended. I feel very proud of the accomplishments of each student! -

The first was a beginner-level group and the other, a low-advanced group. Classes included activities, games, outings, and theater. The second part of class was more focused on conversation practice with other students in the group, and me. I conducted the classes in English, and only used Portuguese when necessary.
