Kristen is working with the City of Boston to launch and operationalize a sustainable, equitable Deep Energy Retrofit Pilot for small multifamily buildings, targeting both deed-restricted and naturally occurring affordable housing. This project will lay the groundwork for future scaled-up efforts to upgrade the city’s housing stock and achieve Green New Deal goals, reducing carbon, while increasing the equitable availability of affordable housing and improving the health and quality of life for its residents.

Kristen works directly with the 6 utility and non-utility partners that comprise Mass Save. She plays an integral role in program design and meeting the energy saving and carbon reduction goals set by the MA Department of Energy Resources (MA DOER). As Technical Manager, she played a key role in establishing program-wide energy efficiency design standards, including the development and implementation of the Passive House Multifamily and All-Electric incentive offers, which serve as pathways to net-zero buildings. Additionally, Kristen oversees a 7-person technical team that provides project level support directly to architects, engineers, builders, and developers. She additionally serves as a technical resource for clients.

Kristen managed the day-to-day operations of the High Rise and Passive House offers, including performance tracking, coordinating, and communicating with clients and the ICF team, and directing and supporting a staff of 3 direct reports. Kristen ensures that ad hoc clients requests are addressed in a timely manner and ideally anticipated before they are requested. In addition to ensuring that contract obligations are met, serves as the technical resource for the team, clients, and participants. In addition to management, Kristen continues to perform outreach and recruitment, project processing, including energy modeling, verification document review, and project close out.

Kristen recruited, educated, and supported participants for the High Rise Path. Her core responsibilities consisted of identifying potential participants, persuading them to participate in the program, quickly moving them through the enrollment process, educating them to maximize energy efficiency and savings, and supporting them to ensure their successful completion of the Program. As part of this work, she completed technical reviews of drawings and specifications, performed energy modeling, and effectively communicated with diverse groups, including developers, architects, engineers, and other consultants. Her additional responsibilities included program design and communication.Kristen’s excellent organizational skills and technical experience allowed her to track multiple projects from start to completion in the program, while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.

Kristen coordinated client and participant needs to deliver a cost effective pilot that produced energy savings in the mid- and high-rise multifamily market segment. The pilot featured prescriptive savings measures for common area and residential unit spaces, identifying and addressing all energy savings opportunities regardless of fuel or meter type. State of the art energy efficiency technologies and design reviews are the hallmark of this program. Upon completion of the pilot, its design and methodologies were integrated into the Massachusetts Residential New Construction Program.

Kristen worked as an assisant project manager and architect on several award-winning, complex commercial building projects. Her responsibilities included communicating with the client/developer, production of design and construction documents, coordination of multiple consultants including engineers and building envelope specialists, building code review, and on-site construction administration.Noted projects include:U.S. Courthouse & Post Office, Brooklyn, NYClient: General Services Administration (GSA)This project involved a complete exterior envelope restoration for the historic granite and terra cotta building, originally constructed in 1892, with a major terra cotta addition in 1933. Responsibilities included full production of biddable, phased Construction Documents and collaboration on an updated Building Preservation (Maintenance) Plan. The project is part of the GSA’s Design Excellence program. Construction began in September, 2009. Tuck Living & Learning Center, Hanover, NHClient: Dartmouth College A new brick and pre-cast concrete mixed-use building, currently in construction. Uses include residential and educational. The building was designed to meet the LEED Silver standard.Trinity Church, Copley Square, Boston, MAClient: Trinity Church in the City of BostonThe project included multiple phases of work at H.H. Richardson’s National Landmark church. Phases included: • Undercroft Adaptive Reuse and Expansion, completed December 2004• Parish House Adaptive Re-use and Restoration, completed September 2004• Tower Interior Mural Restoration, completed summer 2005• Rectory Adaptive Re-use and Restoration, completed February 2006
