MicrobiologistAbbott Lab Feb 2002 - Aug 2002Mcpherson, KsThe main responsibility was to perform laboratory tests using the Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) assay method to identify endotoxins associated with Gram-negative bacteria for the final release of the product. This specific assay involves using lysate prepared from the circulating amebocytes of the horseshoe crab (Limulus polyphemus). The two testing methods include the gel-clot method, which is based on the fact that LAL clots in the presence of endotoxin, and the chromogenic assay Kinetic-QCL, which uses a synthetic chromogenic substrate that produces a yellow color when LAL and endotoxin are present, and the intensity of the color is directly proportional to the endotoxin concentration. -
