Dr. Kristie Burns, Ph.d, studied Anthropology and linguistics at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and then moved to Cairo, Egypt where she worked as a documentary photographer and journalist, using the ethnographic skills learned from her mentor, Ozwald Werner. One of her studies in the region covered the cultural phenomenon of folk medicine, which prompted her to earn certificates in homeopathy and iridology and degrees as a Master Herbalist and Naturopath. Along with consultations, she also uses the chemistry, biology and research she studied during her Master's degree to assist with environmental field work. When she became a parent Dr. Burns, Ph.d became certified as an Early Childhood Waldorf Educator as well as a Montessori Early Childhood educator and studied other methods of education. These certifications along with previous experience grew into a business called Earthschooling, which currently offers earth-based curriculum for ages preschool through eighth grade to parents, teachers, charter schools, public & private schools. Kristie Burns has traveled internationally speaking and teaching on the topics of education, plant biology and history, wildlife research and education. She has been a speaker/presenter at more than 200 events world-wide. Dr. Burns, Ph.d currently offers educational programs for adults and children through her nature-based educational materials at www.TheBEarthInstitute.com, does field research and presentations as a Wildlife Anthropologist for www.PellaWildlifeCompany.org and has been the director of the Academy of Wildlife Education since 2010. She has published numerous articles on the topic of anthropology, wildlife, education, and natural healing. Dr. Burns is the author of the popular teacher reference guide, "The Temperaments and the Adult-Child Relationship" and is currently working on a research guide called, "Zothnography, Ethnography and the Culture of Animal-Human Relationships".
