Every educator knows their “why”—to inspire, educate, and empower students to learn, grow, and fulfill their potential. What can feel elusive is the “how”—how to create inclusive classrooms and curriculums that meet students where they are driven by who they are, serving each child’s multiple needs and identities. I’ve worked with administrators and educators who teach students of all ages from early childhood through young adults. And in every interaction, I’ve found that while the practical details may differ, the fundamental philosophy of how to reach students where and who they are is the same. In order to create ever more inclusive classrooms, and to help students learn to the best of their ability, educators must shift our mindset, heartset, and skillset. The professional development we provide at Inclusive Schooling aims to help teachers and administrators to do just that. It doesn’t matter if your classroom serves students who are 3, 13, or 23— we teach adults how to support, educate, and empower humans of all ages.Whether an educator, or their school system, is best served by a 90-minute interactive session over zoom or in-person, a three-year program of training through asynchronous, in-person or hybrid learning, or a multi-day event such as the Summer Leadership Institute I co-host, I meet educators wherever and however works best for them, so that they can then offer the same to their students.In our school systems, we need practical solutions to what is not just an educational issue but a human rights issue—the right to an education that sees you, works with your abilities, and empowers you to succeed in school and in life, however you define success. Through my work, I aim to empower educators to create wider and wider circles of inclusion, to foster a classroom, and, ultimately, a world, where we all play to our strengths, celebrate each other’s identities and cultivate each other’s abilities.
