About Kristie T.

Hi, I’m Kristie! I launched Uncover Mental Health Counseling as a solo private practice in 2019 after noticing a lack of therapists in New York City who looked like me. For people of color or members of the LGBTQ+ community, it can be difficult to find effective mental health services from someone who really gets you. I quickly saw just how much of a demand there was for culturally sensitive, evidence-based therapy, and Uncover Mental Health Counseling expanded into a group practice in 2020. As a first-generation Asian-American woman, I’ve seen firsthand how our cultural backgrounds have a major impact on what we believe is possible for us. It wasn’t until I enrolled in my first Women’s Studies class in undergrad that I realized how deeply my cultural dynamics had affected how I viewed the world and began to understand the emotional baggage that came with it. And as I built my mental health career, I had to overcome my deeply rooted beliefs that told me I had to struggle to succeed and hustle harder than everyone else to get what I wanted. The truth is, many of us are battling hidden barriers that we don’t even realize are there — from systemic racism that encourages self-oppression and the patriarchy that tells us expressing feelings is a weakness, to our capitalist society that glorifies overwork and burnout. Now, as a licensed therapist, I’m on a mission to help high-achievers break out of the systems that are keeping them stuck. I believe that in order to break out of old patterns and choose something different, we have to be willing to get deeply vulnerable and do the work — and that requires forming a genuine connection with a therapist who encourages us to tap into the most authentic and resourceful version of ourselves. I bring my full self and the depth of my lived experience to each one of my sessions, with the goal of helping my clients create a new path that’s in full alignment with their truest self.
