The AKILAS (Adaptiver KI-Assistent für die Schule) project aims at developing an AI- based learning assistant for German-language school children which will help teachers select and evaluate study exercises for students according to their individual needs. Funded by BMBF and running from 2021 to 2024, the project brings together the fields of Natural Language Processing, Artificial Intelligence and Education Sciences and is carried out by the University of Potsdam, the University of Magdeburg and solocode GmbH in Berlin.I am a member of the Natural Language Processing Team centered at the University of Potsdam.

Worked with children to improve their English, as well as assisting in their other homework and other day-to-day tasks.

In a project called “Linguistic Illusions,” Research Assistants played an important role in investigating language acquisition in children born with Down syndrome, children diagnosed with a language disorder and children not born with any linguistic or cognitive disability among those speaking Southern African American Vernacular English and Southern English.

Community Desk Assistants (CDAs) provide service at the front desks of residence halls for residents, visitors, and staff. CDA duties include but are not limited to: providing outstanding customer service, greeting all students, checking student IDs, answering the phone, taking messages, monitoring the lobby, maintaining the visitation log, assisting housing staff members, monitoring and maintaining the key cabinet inventory, reporting maintenance needs, checking equipment in and out, and other tasks required by the department.

Tutors students in need of academic assistance on the University of Mississippi campus. Subjects include but are not limited to physics, algebra, statistics, trigonometry, and physical science. An important part of this role was teaching students learning skills they could apply during lectures, their individual study time, and tests in and beyond the subjects I taught. The goal is to help students not need my service anymore. Instead, my continued success came from new students who were referred from those I had helped before.
