I diagnose and resolve process inefficiencies, build cross-functional project teams, collaborate with stakeholders and manage financial operations and teams.Most notably, I:• Served as the Interim Accounting Manager for a midsized Food organization for about 2-years. During this time, I led the shutdown of one of their subsidiaries and the subsequent transfer of operations from California to New Mexico. I directed the setup of their accounting system, purchasing function, inventory, accounts receivable and accounts payable procedures. I also performed System Administrator duties in Sage 100, led a system upgrade project and audited and corrected their A/R using multiple Claims systems and Sage X3 (ERP).• Acted as Interim Project Systems Accountant for the local office of an $18 billion publicly traded company for 2.5 years. Within this role, I liaised between Project Billers and the Corporate Accounting department, design and co-created the company’s Project Accountant Manual, served as System Administrator for Oracle PA and impacted 13 companies and 4,000 domestic and international projects.

I oversaw all Accounting functions for this startup, SaaS company and directed preparation of monthly financial statements, investor statements, account reconciliations, journal entries, cash flow management, tax preparation by an external tax firm and K-1 distribution to investors. I also coordinated employee benefits, payroll and company-wide performance reviews.During my tenure, I:• Significantly reduced company costs through lease renegotiations, space reduction and a department restructure and consolidation.• Elevated the business’s transparency by establishing a company budget, implementing a finance management solution and developing and executing an Employee Review process that ensured regular touch points and insights into employee engagement and satisfaction.• Aligned the Finance function with industry best practices, including reformatting the financial system and general ledger to produce SaaS statements rather than a traditional P&L. I also built a cash flow forecasting model to enhance planning.• Engaged my professional network and an external Marketing firm to optimize the company’s Tradeshow strategy, activities and outcomes. This effort improved lead generation results from 3 to 50+ per show.

I led a 10-member team and this health insurance company’s Financial Operations, General Ledger maintenance and Financial Reporting. I managed the accounting for 9-figure investments, including comprehensive income entries for internal and statutory reporting. I oversaw the annual financial audit and preparation of the Annual Report according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). I also managed the financial compliance of provider risk-based arrangements, including contract review, financial statement preparation and data reconciliation with network providers.Additionally, I:• Maintained the same headcount and sustained service levels while the company revenue doubled. During this time, we also reduced the monthly close cycle from 20 to 5 days through system and process optimization.• Facilitated cross-functional reconciliation between the Data Warehouse and Billing systems, leading to the collection of a significant amount of unbilled self-funded claims.• Initiated and conducted an evaluation of the Accounting, Purchasing, Payroll and HR systems that discovered the need to implement a suite solution. I subsequently managed the RFP process, consultant selection, cross-training and all project resources. We facilitated the elimination of redundancies and reconfiguration of 11 data feeds to deliver improved reporting, enhanced detection controls and more efficient data storage. The project was managed so well that we were able to close the books within 1 week of system go-live.

I led a 3-member team to prepare quarterly and annual Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) reports (10-Q and 10-K) in accordance with GAAP for this (then) $1.4 billion, publicly traded spin-off of Micron Technology. I wrote the press releases, footnotes, prepared financials and submitted to the SEC. I designed the initial consolidated financial reporting and forecasting model for the company’s Web Hosting segment. I also managed a 2-member team to handle the annual corporatewide budget development and management, providing budget-to-actual results for all lines of business.

San Francisco Bay Area

I planned procedures and supervised first-year staff in performance of financial statement audits of public and private entities on behalf of this Big Four accounting firm. I focused primarily on Investment Management, Software Development and Semiconductor Manufacturing firms. I also reviewed SEC corporate filings to ensure compliance with GAAP and SEC requirements.
