Kristin lived in Canada for two years, during which time she continued her experience in the environmental engineering and science fields, completing works for Urban Catalyst 3 which has continued upon her return to Australia. She has furthered her experience in environmental assessments and the preparation of State environmental approval documentation and development applications for assessment against the local planning scheme for a range of projects for local government and private entities. She has also completed land suitability assessments for wastewater management projects and has prepared applications for environmental authorities for sewage pump stations and onsite wastewater management systems.

Kristin was employed as a graduate environmental engineer at the completion of her degree. During her time at GHD she worked in the environmental team where she gained experience in the environmental field, working on various local and state government and private infrastructure projects with a focus on roads and highways, boat ramps and coastal seawalls. She gained experience undertaking environmental assessments, identifying environmental approval requirements and preparing supporting documentation for environmental approvals. She also gained experience undertaking stormwater quality modelling (MUSIC), wastewater modelling (MEDLI) and flood modelling.

Kristin was employed as an undergraduate engineer over the holiday period between the third and fourth years of her degree. During her time at Unitywater she contributed to assessing the hydraulic performance and efficiency of sewerage pump stations, comparing SEQ sewer design guideline to other jurisdictions and modelling a self-cleansing gravity sewer network for a future development using various design parameters.Draw down tests were conducted on pump stations to determine incoming and outgoing flow rates. The system resistance for each station was calculated and plotted against the pump curve to determine the duty point and efficiency. The average daily and annual power consumptions were calculated and compared to historic bills. A partial pipe flow and grade determining tools were created in excel. A self-cleansing gravity sewer network for a future development was modelled using current SEQ design criteria and criteria from other jurisdictions.

Kristin worked under pressure in a fast paced environment. During her time at McDonalds, she was exposed and trained in all aspects of the service roles at the franchise, with a focus on the preparation and delivery of food and beverages while adhering to correct procedures and meeting quality and time standards. She worked as a crew member on front counter, café and drive through, a crew trainer (2009-10), the McCafé coordinator (2009) and a McCafe barista (2007-12).
