About Kris Hill
Howdy! I'm Kris, and I'm in the computer software business because I enjoy watching the machines do work for me, I'm in the web dev field because I love to write some stuff in a text file and then give it to a browser and watch what I wrote do all these neat tricks, and I'm on this site so that I can keep getting paid to do that.I've spent the last year working for a Midwest startup, working on a stack that mostly included HTML, Sass/CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript (including StencilJS, a framework-agnostic library for building modern reactive web components), but also included Python on the back-end, and where I've learned a ton about what it takes to be a software engineer at a professional level. One of the most valuable things I've learned through my time at Lumavate is the sort of regular tasks software engineers have to do once or multiple times every day - from checking for new stories assigned to you, to making a pull request and listening to feedback, to knowing "when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em" (aka, when to keep digging on your own for answers, and when to admit you're stuck and ask for help).I am a software engineer and UI designer who likes to build things for the web. I have a solid understanding of web technologies like HTML5, CSS3, modern (ES2015+) JavaScript, ReactJS, NodeJS, various types of SQL and NoSQL structured databases, and developing and deploying on distributed systems (Heroku, GCloud Suite - GAE, GCE, and Firestore, Docker, etc.). Currently looking for a full-time position working on either side of the web stack, with somewhere either in the Greater Seattle Area or working fully remote (or both!). Most of my experience is in the JavaScript ecosystem, but beyond my technical skills, I have over a decade combined worth of experience in education and media production that I can leverage to help your team. On a personal level, I have a passion for the arts, pop culture, and history, and I would love to be able to use my skills as a software engineer to build solutions for companies engaged in any one of those fields.
Listed skills include Curriculum Development, Teaching, Microsoft Office, Customer Service, and 23 others.

Product & Platform Leader | Systems Thinker | Business Operator
Full-Stack Software Developer
I mostly maintain and add features to the web applications that drive RSE's public websites and internal processes. I spend much of my time working closely with the rest of the dev team and members of other departments to design and develop functional, intuitive, and easy-to-use solutions that best serve the needs of our customers and coworkers.
Software Engineer
Develop, Test and Deploy custom web components for the front end of the Lumavate Platform using JavaScript, TypeScript and Python languages, and including the following libraries and frameworks: Selenium, PyTest, StencilJS, Jinja2. Some other technologies that I've used at this job are Jira, Slack, GitHub, Docker, and the command line.
Full Stack Developer
I continue to work with a client on the website for their university lab. I collaborated with the client on styles, structure, and priorities of the project, showcasing my ideas, receiving feedback, and advising the client on their ideas for the web app. I have implemented the entire site, and we continue collaborating and communicating as I have progressed through various stages of implementation. While it is currently up and running through Heroku, the current MVP still needs some polish - it needs more modern looking styles and colors, is missing some content, and isn't really set up yet to be maintainable and updatable by anyone other than myself. I am currently refactoring the backend to integrate this app with Heroku's postgreSQL database, and then integrating that with an admin user interface.
Full Stack Engineer
I corresponded regularly with the other stakeholders, writing weekly status reports and continually reassessing our goals with the rest of the team. A team of two of us had about 8 weeks to go from a list of requirements from the client to an app available to all iOS and Android users. To achieve this, I leveraged the existing web app to set the style and branding of our companion app, and used component-based structure to design custom Flutter widgets for cleaner, scalable code.
