- Serve as Explosives Specialist on a team tasked with responding to suspicious passengers, carry-on luggage, cargo and checked luggage believed to pose a threat to the general safety of the flying public. - Assist with bomb program management responsibilities such as making recommendations on procedures and helping implement processes under the direction of a Program Manager. Develop and deliver training to Transportation Security Officers and other designated staff concerning the detection of explosive devices, chemicals, power supplies, and initiators that terrorists may attempt to carry onto aircraft. Perform spot-check duties at security checkpoints to review the application and enforcement of established procedures involving the detection of potential explosive devices. Deliver training to Transportation Security Administration and local law enforcement officers on Man-Portable-Air-Defense System. Serve as a trainer for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Bombing Prevention. - Respond to alarms involving possible explosives, Improvised Explosive Device (IED) components, or actual IEDs. Assess the interrelationship between initiators, power supplies, switches, and chemicals to determine whether the device is an improvised commercial or homemade explosive. Recommend emergency safety and security procedures to enhance detection of explosive devices and other destructive weapons that may be encountered through various transportation systems while ensuring minimal disruption to transportation operations and passengers. Conduct operational and covert testing of TSO passenger checkpoint and/or baggage-/cargo-screening operations to ensure adherence to procedures.- Build and maintain relationships with federal, state, and local law enforcement personnel along with airlines, airports, and other personnel from various transportation sectors that will help to improve the overall security of air and other transportation systems.
