Major projects:Poseable Arm - A ground support equipment variation of a 7 degree of freedom flight-grade robotic arm. This system relied largely on commercial, off-the-shelf hardware to expedite fabrication and minimize cost. I developed the software and hardware drivers for the system using real-time embedded LabVIEW, integrated the mechanical actuators and sensors, designed the electrical wiring harness, and ultimately oversaw the integration of the arm up to delivery.Opposing-Tendon Robotic Manipulator - In contrast to the most common robotic manipulators which use rotary actuators at each joint, the opposing-tendon robotic arm on tension in opposing cables, analogous to a suspension bridge. This allows for a very long manipulator (tens of meters) while still being lightweight and powerful. This arm was built as part of a NASA study on future asteroid redirect missions. I designed the unique and unconventional control system used on this arm, developed it in a MatLab/Simulink, and implemented the code within the TwinCAT environment.Proposal funding demonstrations: Designed and scripted ground-based prototype demonstrations of proposed aerospace missions involving asteroid sample collection and on-orbit self-assembly of communications satellites. Internal Research & Development - Implemented closed loop feedback of a laser tracker system to control robotic arm tip position to within an absolute accuracy within 2 thousands of an inch. This demonstration paves the way for using terrestrial grade robotics to assist in assembly of flight-grade hardware.Flight Electronics Emulator: I worked on creating a software emulator of a flight electronics unit for the purposes of testing and verification. As part of this program, I wrote a custom RS422/485 protocol and implemented it via FPGA. Show less
