Managing DirectorThe Breadwinner Bakery Ltd. Apr 2014 - PresentEdinburgh, United KingdomAs Managing Director, I am proud of what my team and I have been able to deliver. We have managed to achieve something that not many artisan bakeries have achieved in the UK. In light of a chronic baking skills shortage in Scotland, we have stayed true to our values, invested heavily in our people, increased our brand profile and managed to improve turnover and profits. The early part of that growth has come through our supply partnership with Scotmid Co-operative. In 2013 we were approached by Scotmid to start a supply agreement for Artisan Breads. We were keen that our supply model represented our brand appropriately. I worked closely with Scotmid to find a model that worked well for both companies. This resulted in a full roll-out of this model across stores in Edinburgh and the Lothians.By investing in improving our systems, well beyond what would be expected of a business of our size. The Breadwinner was then in a position to tender and land key contracts that would have previously been out of our reach. In turn, it has given the Food Service industry access to our products, resulting in contracts to supply events such as The Open Championship. The COVID-19 pandemic impacted The Breadwinner significantly as 75% of our customers were forced to shut their doors. We took this time to perform a market review of the company's direction and put a strategy to bounce back. I am pleased to say that we not only survived but have come out the other side stronger due to decisions made at this time. My team refocussed our vision and direction returning as an entirely plant-based offering, which has opened many new doors, including a significant contract to supply COP 26 in Glasgow. -
Director (Business & Project Manager)The Breadwinner Bakery May 2010 - Apr 2014EdinburghWorking in a small business has meant that my role has been varied, dealing with suppliers, staff and customers day to day. Though primarily it has been my role to develop a coherent strategy and business plan that would bring both security and growth to The Breadwinner Bakery. This has involved delivering many key infrastructure projects (including project managing moving the business to new larger premises) and establishing a new marketing and sales strategy. These have helped The Breadwinner increase its turnover year on year. Enabling us re-invest in the company and to meet the business plan goals, in some places 3 years ahead of schedule. -
