As Travel and Expense System Analyst for Travel Services, my focus was on big picture functionality of Concur with UofM's other integrated systems to maximize financial transparency and system efficiency, and to work with other departments and system representatives to configure Concur to strike the best balance between meeting UofM policy standards and maintaining ease of use for the University community. I developed reports and statistics to monitor system function, user compliance, vendor relations, and financial patterns using Concur Intelligence, CWT Analytiqs, Argos, FAST, and Excel. I also developed web content surrounding Travel program information and procedures, and systems training.

Travel Services

In this position I supervised a team of four staff and coordinated the University of Manitoba travel program. My duties included performing monthly reconciliations, creating internal and public procedural and informational documentation, troubleshooting and optimizing the Concur system (our expense management tool), interpreting and enforcing Travel policy, evaluating and updating departmental procedures, and designing and giving presentations on travel policy best practices as well as informational workshops on Concur. I also conducted focus groups to pinpoint and address system and policy hurdles within units, and offered system and policy navigational assistance.

University Of Manitoba

In this position I provided technical support to faculty and staff of the University of Manitoba for internal systems. I granted access to and troubleshot issues in the Concur (Integrated Travel Tool) and Epic (Procurement) systems, and worked with Banner and Fast Reporting. I administered one-on-one training sessions for these four systems as required for new employees. I wrote and updated training and reference documentation for the systems, and posted changes to the Financial Services website through Red Dot. I worked with other departments and employees to ensure clients were receiving accurate and helpful information as quickly and efficiently as possible.

University Of Manitoba

I served as the assistant copy editor at the Manitoban. I edited two to three sections a week including news, arts, science, sports, feature, editorial, and comment. I also attended storyboard and production meetings to learn more about the process of newspaper publication.

With this position I further developed my time management and organization skills. The ability to work under tight deadlines was required. Close attention to detail was essential, as well as strong grammar and formatting skills. It was necessary to be able to look at 20+ assignments, and be able to assign consistent grades according to specific criteria.

University Of Manitoba

Duties included ensuring campus employees had proper access to the new travel claims tool Concur, auditing travel expense claims in accordance with University and Travel department policies, distributing travel credit cards, and keeping track of the department's activities in terms of the new travel tool integration.

While serving in this temporary position, I executed clerical tasks such as sorting mail, directing phone traffic, and maintaining filing procedures. I also processed elevator tickets and bills of lading, entered contracts, and tracked grain bids. Part of my duties included running reports, updating information, and processing grain shipments in Thede Ward. In addition to my regular duties, I also reviewed and updated Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Safety records, and coordinated, updated and reformatted the Emergency Response Plan for grain, chemical and fertilizer facilities under a tight deadline. Most notably in this position, I researched, compiled, and wrote an employee orientation handbook for employees who spoke English as a second language and had no familiarity with the surrounding area.

Casual/part time work. Received tuition and other types of payments for U of M campus in various forms of tender. Worked with several different computer programs including Banner and Aurora. Dealt with students and campus staff daily answering questions concerning tuition, locations on campus, and different application procedures for various aims (such as final grade appeals).
