As a PhD Candidate in Linguistics at UCSB, I am passionate about documenting and describing sign languages of the Caribbean, and exploring the intersections of language, identity, and culture among queer and trans communities. With the help of an NSF Scholarship, I presented my findings at the International Conference on Language Documentation and Conservation, and received positive feedback from renowned scholars and activists. In addition to my academic research, I have 7+ years of diverse experiences in industry and community-based projects, where I applied my skills and knowledge in accessibility, interpreting, communications, project development, fundraising, grant writing, public engagement, video content creation, language teaching, writing, public speaking, and leadership. I currently co-facilitate a healing group of graduate student survivors of interpersonal violence at The Thriving Initiative, using my inclusion, diversity and trauma-informed expertise. I also serve as a Teaching Assistant at UCSB, where I mentor and inspire the next generation of linguists. My goal is to use my linguistic abilities and insights to empower marginalized communities and promote social justice and equity. I am always eager to learn new languages, cultures, and perspectives, and to collaborate with others who share my values and vision.
