ZEM is the artistic duo Kristyna Balaban & Adam Široký, who specialise in audio-visual installations and performances. Recent arrivals to Canada, they worked together for over 8 years in Prague, Czech Republic, doing work that ranges from architectural video mapping, live audio-visual performances, to large audio-visual and interactive installations. Their latest interactive light installation Tree Love was a part of the 2024 Lumière: The Art of Light festival in Toronto. Their work has been exhibited at the Lumia gallery in Prague, the New Liben Synagogue in Prague, DEPO2015 cultural space in Plzen, Rudolfinum Concert Hall in Prague, and numerous music and cultural festivals over the years. They are particularly interested in creating collective experiences through site-specific immersive audio-visual installations and connecting human and natural elements, encouraging viewers to reflect on themselves and their relationship to the non-human world. Coming from an underground scene of electronic music festivals and alternative spaces, they strive to create a playful environment, inviting people from all walks of life to interact with their work.

I oversaw the launch of the new North and South American platform, DAFilms Americas, and curated original programs, retrospectives, and acquired content for the platform.

Experienced in creating promotional videos & theatre trailers from conception to delivery. I worked both independently and in a team to produce original content on tight deadlines. Clients include the Prague Shakespeare Company, Prague Film and Theater Center, Lobkowicz Events Management, Passion Communications, Prague Fringe Festival, Phiren Amenca, Open Society Fund, TINAR Reading Series.

Organized and taught a two week practical course on social issue documentary filmmaking in Kathmandu to young Nepalese students. Prepared materials, provided mentoring, organized film screenings.

Worked for the Center for Voluntary Sector Services. Complied database of Immigrant Service Organizations around the GTA for a project looking at the multicultural and ethnic immigrant settlement organizations and their role in integration, complied statistics, organized interviews with Executive Directors of immigrant settlement organizations.

Worked with residents of the Kipling Towers as a community media support worker on ONE MILLIONTH TOWER, helped facilitate media workshops for residents, researched and complied a database of highrises worldwide for ONE MILLIONTH TOWER. Coordinated qualitative survey on digital use of low income and immigrant residents in the Kipling towers, Toronto, for the NFB DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP project.

Worked on a project with the York Region Local Immigration Partnership that examined immigrant needs, service utilization, barriers and gaps in immigrant settlement services in order to improve those settlement services and supports.

Led tutorials for Introduction to Social Sciences course for first and second year university students.
