My interest in Graphic Design started when I was 14 and my dad (who worked in the printing industry) installed QuarkXPress on our home computer.... I began experimenting with page layout and typography and, whenever I got stuck, I'd call his office and get transferred to pre-press so they could walk me through whatever issue I was having and teach me along the way. Fast forward over 20 years, and here I am, still passionate about graphic design and always eager to learn. I started my post secondary education at UBC for English and finished off at SAIT in the Journalism Arts program where I expanded my skillset to writing, photography, marketing and public relations. From there I began volunteering at a Rock'n'Roll magazine doing page layout and eventually began my career at a Men's Fitness Magazine where I worked my way up from office manager to managing editor - writing, interviewing, editing, art directing, arranging & directing photoshoots, etc - within the year. The magazine stopped printing (like many did at that time) and I moved positions to the parent Sports Nutrition Company. Fast forward 5 years, and I eloped - on a whim - in Las Vegas and moved to Calgary to pursue a life with my new Chef husband. We then decided to combine our passions and talents and open a restaurant in his small home town of Shaunavon, SK. Here, he showcased his culinary talents, and I explored my interior design, graphic design, marketing, photography and hospitality skills. Nine years after opening, we are proud to be an award-winning restaurant, with awards from Tourism Saskatchewan, Gold Medal Plates and CBC Future 40 Under 40; we have been showcased on multiple TV shows, in numerous travel/food/cook books, have a long list of interviews in print and on radio and are proud to be called pioneers and inspirations to fellow Saskatchewan restauranteurs. I also began working on the side for the Town of Shaunavon as Economic Development Officer and Communications Officer promoting the town I am proud to call home...and then the day before the province shut down due to the pandemic we found out we were pregnant. I began working from home not knowing what the implications of COVID had on pregnancy and two years later, here we are... I have a happy, healthy, hilarious daughter and am, pursing my dream operating my own boutique creative studio.
