As a research assistant to Medical Oncologist, Dr. Andrew D. Seidman, I established a database of patients with breast cancer-brain metastases for the study “Histopathological markers at craniotomy and outcome in Breast Cancer Brain Metastases” led by Ms. Megan McKee at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, to be presented to ASCO for publication. I reviewed the electronic medical records of patients, including radiology, surgery and breast medicine reports. Lastly, I extracted necessary information from the records, including date of initial breast cancer diagnosis, metastases diagnosis, CNS metastases diagnosis and craniotomy.

Integrative Neuroscience/Psychology Department- Psych 362I assisted Dr. DiLorenzo in class lecture twice a week from 8:30-10:00 a.m. I instructed office hours each week outside of class to discuss topics with students who sought guidance. I facilitated the grading of each of four class exams with other teaching assistants. Lastly, I attended review sessions prior to each test to assist with clarification of difficult material.

I was an integral part of the maintenance of the emergency room and assistant to staff members. I facilitated the transport of patients to different rooms within the emergency department and to procedures throughout the hospital. I aided in the comfort of patients by bringing them food, drinks, extra blankets, etc. I replenished medical supplies within rooms and within cabinets as needed. I prepared rooms including stretchers, cabinet supplies, and countertops for new arrivals. I collaborated with physicians and nurses to facilitate effective patient consultations and assessments. I observed physicians to gain knowledge of common pain/injury complaints and treatment processes.

As a camp counselor, I was responsible for twenty 4-5 year olds. I facilitated the daily activities during the 9:00-4:30 p.m. camp day. I directed lunch and snack time making sure all kids ate their meals. I aided in the games and sports of the recreational period. I secured the safety of children during swim time in the lake at Camp Pouch. I assisted in the instruction to the children during art, science, and memory book periods. I taught the children valuable lessons of listening and following rules, respecting each other and others’ belongings and being responsible with their own belongings.

As an assitant at Testtakers, I managed paperwork and filing of documents for students taking the SAT preparation course including tests, test grades sheets, lecture packets, practice problems and vocabulary quizzes. I distributed supplies includes vocabulary word boxes and custom-made pencils. I kept records of testing progress to see what subjects needed improvement. I worked with parents making payments and handled large sums of money. I took initiative by working extra hours as needed by my boss. Lastly, I learned the importance of working in a team and communicating to allow for effective completion of tasks.
