Laboratory Technician
Current• Prepare soil, rocks, aggregate, sand,water, sludge, potting mix, compost, plant tissue samples (drying, grinding, pulverizing, jaw crushing, moisture content, especial care with asbestos testing sample).• Perform physical testing such as bulk density, toxicity, particle size analysis using sieving method.• pH, EC measurements of water and soil using pH meter on benchtop and LabFIT AS3000 instrument.• Determine turbidity in water.• Determine total suspended solids in water.• Determine Carbon and Nitrogen in liquid, soil, yeast and plant tissue samples using LECO instrument.• Execute chemical analysis of water, soil, yeast and plant tissue samples (samples digestion, extractions) and analysis instrumental in ICP-OES AVIO ensuring traceability of analytical standards and samples. • Calibrate different balances within the laboratory as a part of the quality assurance.• Perform entry of results into Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Use of other software such as FileMaker Pro.• Maintain a high level of housekeeping in both the sample preparation and analytical laboratories.Sample receipt officer• Receive samples from clients and consultants.• Book samples such as water, soil, sludges, compost, potting mix, yeast into the FileMaker Pro software according to the job control sheet, quote, purchase order, etc.• Coordinate by email, calls with consultants regarding sample information from their clients and from their own field sampling.• Book online through website, email; book by calling couriers to send samples to different laboratories located in Sydney, regional Sydney and in other states.• Coordinate by email, in person with laboratory manager regarding appropriate lab tests for certain samples, capacity of the laboratory to handle large number of samples, among others.• Coordinate with laboratory team in the preparation area regarding urgent samples, special clients’ requests.• Manage the stock control of materials use for subsampling.
