During my fourth year at McCormick, I accepted a role as business unit CFO for Zatarain’s, which is based in New Orleans. At the time, it was the largest independent subsidiary within the company and early plans were in place to invest a significant amount of capital into the business (see link of final result). My team and I did a full review of the financial controls, revamped reporting, engaged the entire site in continuous cost improvement, and developed and executed strategies to improve profitability. In 2015 I offered to help my former M&A team by leading an effort to review Stubb’s as a possible acquisition and potentially submit an offer. We submitted multiple offers and our final offer was eventually accepted (see link). I led the integration in Austin, TX and took on the role of CFO for Stubb’s in addition to my role with Zatarain’s.

As the FP&A Innovation lead, I built new product financial models for global teams to leverage and provided strategic support on key initiatives. On the M&A side I managed the acquisition model, reviewed potential target companies, developed our acquisition strategy and kept the board updated on investments. Other responsibilities included managing the long term plan for McCormick's U.S. Consumer Division and working with strategy consultants on Corporate initiatives to create value for shareholders. Working with the consultants gave me the opportunity to deep dive each of the US based businesses, perform detailed EVA analyses and ideate on improvements to create shareholder value.

While in Strategic Finance I led the integration of Kitchen Basics (see link), I owned the annual budget for the US Consumer Division and forecasted the monthly P&L and balance sheet for leadership and the street. I played a key role in our Cognos implementation and created automated Cognos financial bridges to efficiently explain to internal and external stakeholders how the organization moved from point A to point B.

As part of the commercial finance team I managed McCormick's "red cap" marketing budget, supported new product launches, and developed financial models to support brand initiatives. I re-engineered the coupon management process and the wholesale pricing process to improve efficiency and increase operating profit margins. The new processes were so successful that I received an award from the CEO of McCormick at the end of 2009.

I built and launched a Maryland registered investment advisory in the first half of 2007. By the summer, I had grown assets under management to $7.0 million and one of my clients offered me the opportunity to become co-founder and CFO of a HR-tech startup named Paidinterviews. Our startup raised ~$1M in seed funding and it was launched at DEMOFall08 in San Diego. Paidinterviews.com was an online recruiting startup. Besides overseeing all of the financial functions, I also helped design the application and managed a ten person team. We raised $0.5 million in an angel round and an additional $0.5 million in a Series A round valuing the business at $5.5 million. Our advisory board was stacked with well known tech leaders hand picked from the YPO. The application was launched at the DEMO 08 tech conference in San Diego. I joined Fila shortly after Cerberus Capital had bought the company out of bankruptcy. As manager of FP&A I owned the financial statement forecast process, annual budget and the Weekly Business Review (WBR) for Wholesale Apparel and Footwear, Retail and E-commerce. I also played a key role in the turnaround process by improving reporting and developing procedures to reduce financial risk.When Fila USA was acquired in 2007 I provided the new executive team with a strategic review of each business unit and worked with the COO to restructure the company. Accounting functions that I performed included acting as controller for Fila's e-commerce business.

Following an nine month accounting internship at EA Engineering, this was my first role in corporate finance. My goal was to grow the bottom line by implementing management principles that I had learned while working at Carmax during college. I developed performance management systems and key performance indicators that helped accelerate operating income growth by 1000 basis points. In 2005 I selected and implemented a business intelligence software system to improve financial insights. In addition to FP&A, I served as controller for a subsidiary business and performed financial analyses on potential acquisition targets.
