Women'S Correctional Center
Krystal's responsibilities include many things. Corrections is said to be a job of many hats. She is trained in CPR, First Aid, Suicide Awareness & Prevention, the use of MSA & Fire extinguisher equipment, and the use of a Spit Hood as well as various forms of physical restraints, including handcuffs, leg irons, and a restraint chair. Krystal is also trained to perform rehabilitative case work as a transitional point for offenders before they're received into community corrections. This includes one-on-one case contacts with offenders on her case load, as well as facilitating group informational sessions and disseminating contact and informational materials about outside agencies. Krystal continuously seeks additional training, and received specialized training to work in the correctional center's intake and records unit. In this unit, her responsibilities included: receiving and processing court documents, which varied in nature from orders to convey and remand warrants to calculating sentence dispositions for release dates. She was responsible for communicating with various other law enforcement organizations (WPS, RCMP, Sheriffs), the courts (Winnipeg as well as rural) as well as various public bodies, including Elizabeth Fry Society, Behavioral Health Foundation, and Turning Leaf among many others.
