I was employed as a CNA in various healthcare settings from 2007-2020 but graduated in August 2020 with a Bachelors in Cytotechnology with Biology and Chemistry minors. Since then, I have been employed with Mercyhealth in the Anatomic Pathology department as a Cytotechnologist where I screen both Gyn and NonGyn slides as well as attend FNA procedures and process cytology specimens.I have thoroughly enjoyed the Cytology profession so far. I used to wonder if I'd ever have a more art or science-based career given my interest in both, and I'm fortunate to have found one that I feel is a lovely blend of both. I enjoy learning about the varied morphologies we encounter when screening for disease. I am always eager to see what I may find on the next slide before me as it is a possibility I may discover something new and intriguing. I also have great fulfillment knowing that I am playing a part in helping patients find answers about what ails them. With my Nursing background, I have seen firsthand just how much a lab result can alter a patient's care, and I aim to do everything in my power to see that they receive the answers they seek.
