Commercial And Business Manager - Us Gulf Of Mexico
CurrentResponsible for Commercial, Land, and JV in CNOOC’s Gulf of Mexico division, which generates 60% of our North American Free Cash Flow. If you’re wondering what that means - all offshore operating agreements and leases hit my desk, and I coordinate our negotiations, project funding approvals, and external communications with our joint venture partners like Shell, Hess, Chevron, Equinor, and many others. For a time I was also responsible for running our asset Economics for processes like Reserves, Strategic Planning, and Impairments. In addition, I am the CNOOC representative on the Offshore Oil Scouts Association (OOSA) and currently sit on the Board of Directors.
Commercial Advisor - Us Gulf Of Mexico
Analyst - Global Strategy, Planning & Economics
This was a dynamic role within the planning team responsible for preparation of project economics, capital management, annual budget, and strategic planning processes for Canadian operations including operated and non-operated oil sands and various gas and power assets.
Advisor - North American Chief Financial Officer
This was an amazing opportunity to essentially job-shadow an executive during a transition year from Nexen to CNOOC International. I was selected directly by the CFO and was fortunate to get behind-the-scenes exposure to top executives and senior leaders (particularly Corporate Planning & Strategy, Audit, Accounting, and Tax, Treasury & Insurance), major project discussions and approvals, corporate governance and board meetings, the pension committee, rolling out a new global organizational design and corporate business model, and integration activities as we continue merging Nexen with our Chinese parent company CNOOC International. I have also been fortunate to have visited our locations in Beijing, Uxbridge UK, both Houston offices (USA Shale and Gulf of Mexico), and oil sands operations in Long Lake and have developed an overall understanding of our global assets in the USA, Gulf of Mexico, the UK, South America, and Africa.
Commercial Joint Venture Representative
This was an evolving and ever-changing role giving me great exposure to frontline operations and joint venture partner management. I was responsible for all joint venture activities for multiple assets including an operated legacy gas plant and field undergoing abandonment and remediation activities, an operated combined cycle power station (120MW), a non-operated wind farm (71MW), and some small non-operated/contract operated producing gas and oil assets. I also was the secondary representative for Syncrude and an exploration play in Atlantic Canada. This experience gave me exposure to drafting, amending, and interpreting joint venture agreements such as Construction Ownership & Operating Agreements, Accounting Procedures (particularly PASC 1996), Gas Handling Agreements, Contract Operating Agreements, and a variety of fit-for-purpose Letter Agreements. I was the main day-to-day contact between external and internal stakeholders and was also responsible for a number of special projects and discovered my ability to successfully strategize and execute influencing plans and large-scale asset strategies which required aligning many internal and external groups (operations, legal, marketing, accounting, business development, and senior management). Projects included divestments, arbitration and litigations, audits, data rooms, and many negotiations, and in less than two years I directly obtained over $1MM for Nexen.
