I am currently the senior academic director of faculty affairs at Capella University. This position marries my decade+ experience as a professor with my administrative background via its focus on all things related to faculty training, growth, and development. I have walked the walk through multiple professor and leadership roles in the past, and am privileged to now provide strategic oversight and vision as a university leader in this area. I am passionate about nourishing faculty morale and growth, while also championing innovation and forward momentum. Previously, I served as the associate academic program director for undergraduate and applied graduate psychology at Capella University, providing program, curricular, and faculty oversight while working closely with a fantastic team of psychology and university colleagues. Prior to making the move to Capella, I spent almost 10 years working within the small liberal arts college setting in a professor role. I specialized in teaching human development, research methods/practicum, general psychology, and education courses, alongside my specialty area of media psychology. I was also an active researcher and academic advisor during this time.My work has been published in over 20+ articles and book chapters. Along the way, I have mentored and published with both undergraduate and graduate students, helping them learn about research and thrive as they move forward in their own academic journeys. My research has centered on the intersection between media psychology and education, and trying to determine the ‘why’ behind technology benefitting or hindering our learning. There is much to be learned about new technologies and how they influence our daily lives and learning processes.I have taught courses and provided leadership in all modalities, including online, hybrid, and in-person. I believe that all these teaching models can be successful in educating students, with each modality coming with its own set of "best practices" to create the most effective learning experience possible.
