Sai Siva Kare, Phd Email and Phone Number
- I am a PhD Mechanical Engineer focusing on Biomedical applications of Mechanical Engineering.- Currently, I work at KAER Biotherapeutics, Escondido, CA. We develop medical devices to address respiratory diseases and deliver therapeutic drugs. Since joining in October 2022, I have developed two distinct medical devices and contributed as co-inventor in three US Patents. - I love solving engineering problems with theoretical analysis, experiments and numerical simulations. This has allowed me to acquire 7 + years of experience in designing and developing drug delivery devices and 7 + years of experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using COMSOL multiphysics and Ansys.- I have 12 + years of experience with CAD software and my favorite one is SolidWorks.- I have developed novel mathematical theories to understand and explain physical phenomena such as fluid flow in narrow conduits, which can be used to quantify the surface properties of the material and flow rate.- I have experience in electrophysiological experiments (in-vitro) and data analysis with retinae of genetically modified rats to mimic blindness-causing human diseases. These experiments were conducted to test a chemical retinal prosthesis that I developed for therapeutic drug delivery in a diseased human retina. - My work would not have been possible without my Parents, PhD advisors and mentors who have shaped my intellect and made me who I am.Apart from Engineering, I love Skydiving! I have 300+ skydives (from airplanes, hot air balloons and heli) and 14 BASE jumps from Prinne Bridge, Idaho. This sport has taught me consistency, discipline and 100% commitment while enjoying the process.

Research Assistant, Nano And Microsystems LaboratoryUniversity Of Illinois At Chicago Jun 2019 - Aug 2022Chicago, Il, UsGenerating artificial visual signal in a blind rat retina using microfluidics-Developed a micropump without any moving parts, to generate artificial vision in blind retinas. Successfully generated artificial visual signals in rat retinae in-vitro. -Successfully miniaturized the microfluidic pump further to a final product that has a 6 order smaller form factor than previous stimulation devices. These microdevices can be used for implantable drug delivery systems.Novel fluid flow quantification technique in an all-polymer microfluidic pump with integrated thin film electrodes-Developed a novel nano-liter flow quantification technique using microdroplets to measure the flow rate in the order of nL/s. This technique is low-cost and does not require any specialized instruments; and can simultaneously characterize electrical properties at the fluid-surface interface.-Developed a transparent, biocompatible, and monolithic electroosmotic micropump (<100 μm thick) with integrated polymer electrodes. Successfully demonstrated the technique experimentally and numerically using transient COMSOL Multiphysics. Effect of electrode potential reduction on electroosmotic flow rate due to ion screening-Designed and developed transient COMSOL Multiphysics simulation to study electroosmotic flow reduction due to electrode screening caused by the ions dispersed in a fluid. -Developed a custom microfluidic device and utilized particle imaging velocimetry to demonstrate this phenomenon experimentally. -
