I recently completed my final term of the Mechanical Technologist for Manufacturing Diploma at the British Columbia Institute of Technology in Burnaby, BC. Through this, I gained significant hands-on experience in manufacturing. During my capstone project at BCIT, I worked in a small team to manufacture a chess set and board. For this project, we received a design from our instructor, produced a quote for raw materials, anodizing, and labour costs, created tools paths for CNC mills and lathes using Fusion 360, optimized processes, and performed quality control tests. I continue to learn and absorb as much as I can from my studies to become the best asset to a company as I can. During my many years as a carpenter, I was able to learn a variety of skills such as problem-solving, design, interacting with clients and other tradespeople, and overcoming and adapting many obstacles quickly that would otherwise delay projects. In my more recent years, I was tasked with running job sites independently and was responsible for supervising and training a new apprentice. While working on many high budget projects in clients main living spaces, attention to detail and organization was crucial and I had to catch any mistakes that may have been made.I continue to be curious about the world that surrounds us and am always ready to learn something new.
