I am a freelance writer and researcher, and an English tutor for all ages, with more than 25 years of experience in journalism and education. I create engaging and informative content on various topics, such as literature, child welfare, wellness, and historical research, for different platforms and audiences, including magazines, lesson plans, and online articles. I also teach and coach students and adults in writing, reading, and literacy skills, helping them improve their communication and academic performance.Previously, I worked as an ELA and literacy specialist at the Indiana Department of Education, where I supported the work of high school and middle school teachers and administrators in assessment, curriculum, and literacy reform. I have an award-winning background in reporting and editing for newspapers and specialty publications, covering issues such as government, health, and GLBTQ. My mission is to use my vast experiences in research, teaching, and communication to strengthen the voices of others, especially those who struggle, and to explore new opportunities in publishing, educational consulting, communication, teaching, nonprofit management, and government.

Newspaper Adviser, Journalism And English TeacherPerry Meridian High School Jul 2016 - May 2018401 W. Meridian School Road, Indianapolis, In 46217I advised FOCUS, the high school newspaper. In my first year at Perry, it was one of 12 finalists for the Hoosier Star among large-school newspapers, which recognizes the best high school newspapers in the state of Indiana. My students won more than 20 writing and design awards. This was a first for the school. It hadn't been honored with awards since it was established in 1973.I also taught journalism, a full-year course that includes law, ethics, research, writing, history and design. Beyond journalism, I taught sophomore English, designing most of my own curriculum and tests to reflect the diversity of our student body.
