Managed day-to-day operations of 23 research and administrative staff of an industry supported, ‘soft money’ R&D unit of the Texas Engineering Experiment Station, Texas A&M University System, located in six buildings on two campuses encompassing 60,000 sq ft.Provided administrative leadership, marketing, communication, long-range planning, budgeting, and point of contact for corporate partners, with full P&L responsibilities.Initiated research programs congruent with emerging trends in agricultural biotech, pharmaceutical and nutriceutical compound isolation, human and animal health, and rational food/water utilization.Developed key industry partnerships with industry stakeholders through new training and short course development, and provided a single point of contact for the Institute’s external industry advisory council.

Facilitated technology acquisition via patent licensing, provisional patent drafting and editing, invention disclosures, and initial market evaluation, resulting in four licenses and two-start-up companies.Escorted potential industry licensees through technology evaluation process by providing samples, process demonstrations, assisting with SBIR submissions, and articulating TAMU System process.

Directed and conducted diverse research efforts in applied toxicology and food safety, including destruction of foodborne and drinking water contaminants, pathogen elimination on diverse raw food and related surfaces, non-systemic pathogen control in live poultry, cellulosic fiber treatment and utilization, and development of countermeasures for chemical/biological warfare agents.Served as the technical project manager and technology transfer liaison of several projects involving disinfection, decontamination, detoxification, and biofilm control. Secured over $5 million of extramural funding for technology development and commercialization from both private and public entities (including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense/Army) via Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I and Phase II grant proposals to support my research group and facilitate patenting and technology transfer activities.Authored or co-authored and filed six issued U.S patents (one pending) and three corresponding PCT patents.

Supervised a multicultural team of sixteen responsible for safely receiving, allocating and sequentiallydelivering daily over $4 million of finished cattle into the processing facility.Successfully created and maintained a cooperative, problem solving environment within the receiving yards department while coordinating federal (DVM) and state (brand) inspectors, cattle procurement staff, labor union representative(s), and Cargill management.Executed a 1st:2nd shift impact on shrink/yield discrepancy project, and designed, executed and reported to management a pathogen source identification project for internal HACCP modification.
