As the Global Head of Recycling at Glencore, I manage the recovery of critical metals from various recycling feeds, such as lithium-ion batteries, end-of-life electronics, and end-of-life vehicles. With over 20 years of experience in commodity trading, management consulting, and private equity, I have a strong track record of strategy formulation and execution, capital projects delivery, P&L management, analytical thinking, and stakeholder engagement in the global metals and mining sector. My mission is to help the world achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, by driving the energy transition and the circular economy with innovative and scalable solutions that create value for the environment, society, and the economy. To this end, I am spearheading development of Glencore's battery circularity platform that aims to combine primary and recycled feeds (upstream), process them into battery chemicals (midstream), and provide those to downstream partners. Alongside, the platform aims to logically close the loop for batteries (and later on EVs) in North America and Europe, providing solutions for second life as well as recycling (manufacturing as well as end of life scrap). This includes our investment in Li-Cycle, a leading battery recycling startup, whose board I serve on, as well as numerous other partnerships and collaborations with recyclers, second life companies, battery chemical producers and lithium refiners. I have also been part of the core team that defined the structure of the Circular Electronics Partnership, a global initiative to promote responsible recycling of electronic waste. Additionally, I collaborate with top robotics research teams at the University of Maryland and metallurgical researchers at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where I contribute to the commercialization of cutting-edge recycling, metal recovery, and intelligent un-manufacturing technologies. I am also an angel investor in and advisor to startups working on low/zero carbon metals and broader decarbonization themes.Specific to the Energy Transition ahead of us, I am focused on bringing fundamental and critical "old world" skills like commercial strategy, risk management, project management and execution, and running businesses at scale, to the "new world" of clean/green tech!
