I define myself as a flexible and creative operations expert and information professional. My role as an LTA for the King County Library System before and during the Pandemic has challenged me, helped me grow, and confirmed my commitment to the importance of equitable access to resources. As a primary point of contact for patrons engaging with the libraries I work in it has been my responsibility to build strong lines of communication and a depth of knowledge to use those lines to improve the lives and experience of the people I servce. I spent 13 years working a high impact and very diverse downtown retail environment. It required me to develop strong communication skills, customer service practices, and flexibility in a workplace that can change every few minutes. In addition I've learned management skills, training techniques, and best practices for developing and maintaining both organizational techniques and strong teams. In 2018 I was fortunate enough to complete two contract positions at the Seattle Public Library. The first was in operations where I supported the circulation desk while handling daily shipping receiving as well as customer service. The second was as a floating reference desk employee where I worked at a variety of libraries throughout Seattle and acted as building lead, supervisor, and reference staff member. These two positions vastly widened my understanding and professional capabilities when it comes to on the ground library knowledge as well as lead and management experience. In my academic career in Rutgers Universities online Masters in Library and Information Science program I've developed an understanding of more advanced management techniques, library practices and philosophies, and the evolving measure of a modern libraries success in the eyes of its community. Practically, I've had courses in web design, the structure and creation of digital libraries, program evaluation metrics, information visualization, reference services, and social informatics.
