My primary responsibilities revolved around maintaining the computers for the company's workers (in an office of 300 people). This included diagnosing and repairing hardware and software problems related to the Windows operating system and Office software. I also built and deployed hundreds of PC's, laptops, and servers.

I taught several Meteorology 110 lab sections for the Atmospheric Sciences department at the University of North Dakota. This included lecturing to the class about various meteorological topics, such as basic atmospheric structure, thermodynamics, instrumentation, physical meteorology. Each week I also led the class in performing hands on experiments about the topics I had lectured about, such as testing instrumentation error, gas laws, and the Coriolis Force.

While interning at the Studio One television program at the University of North Dakota, I worked as a member of the Weather Team. Each week during the school year, the weather team assembled the weather segment of the show, which included producing weather stories, creating advanced computer graphics for the show, and running various pieces of production equipment during the show. During my tenure at the show, I ran every piece of equipment, including the audio board, switcher, studio cameras, and video server. I also produced an average of two stories per semester regarding various weather topics, such as Skywarn Spotter Training, Doppler weather radar, the EF-Scale for tornadoes, and a historical recap of the 1997 Grand Forks flood. I was awarded the Studio One Recognition of Excellence Award in late 2007 for my exceptional dedication and work to the show.

As a student volunteer at the NWS in Grand Forks, I learned about the structure of the NWS and how it operates. I also received hands-on training on the operation of the AWIPS forecasting workstations and by the end of my volunteer time, I was producing dewpoint/RH forecasts, writing area forecast discussions, taking snow cores/sky observations, and verifying the integrity of incoming weather data.

This was a summer internship awarded to me as part of receiving the NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship. While working at the NWS Weather Forecast Office in Duluth, MN, I completed a research project that studied the office's CWA severe weather climatology for a thirty year period. This project entailed working very heavily in Microsoft Excel and a number of other computer programs. I also helped with the operational duties of the office, including testing the weather radio systems every week and answering phones and monitoring the radar during severe weather events. At the end of the summer, I presented my findings to the staff at the NWS office and also traveled to the NOAA headquarters in Silver Spring, MD and presented my research to a board of NOAA scientists.
