My current interests: Internet security; future architectures and their evaluation; design of secure Internet protocols; BGP security; DDoS mitigation; develop standards and BCPs (IETF and NIST); Internet performance/simulation/measurement studies. My major contributions include: (1) Design and analysis of protocols for secure inter-domain routing and DDoS mitigation, (2) Design of algorithms for Internet congestion control and traffic management, and (3) Design of MAC protocols for broadband access over cable modems and wireless networks. Several highly cited papers and patents on packetized voice/data multiplexing, congestion control algorithms, cable modems, agile optical switching, and Internet routing (BGP/BGPsec).Specialties: Architecture, protocols, traffic management, algorithms, simulation, and performance evaluations for Internet and wireless technologies. Design and evaluation of Internet routing architecture, protocols, and security.Honors: Fellow of the IEEE; Recipient of the US Department of Commerce Gold Medal Award (2021) together with my BGP Security project team at NIST ( https://www.nist.gov/nist-awards/2021-gold-medal-award-oliver-borchert-douglas-montgomery-kotikalapudi-sriram-patrick ) ; Appointed Distinguished/Consulting Member of the Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories.
